Minutes - Stables Committee




  1. Time and place.  The October 15, 2020 business meeting of the Eldorado Stable Committee (“the ESC”) was held on October 15, 2020, on Zoom and was called to order at 7:10 pm by the Chair of the ESC.  Copies of the Agenda, past meeting Minutes and the Chair Report were sent by email.  The Zoom meeting was recorded.
  1. Quorum, Attendees, Agenda.  A quorum of ESC members was present, specifically Amelia Adair, Deena Joseph, Karla Lauritsen and Tara Debevec.  In addition to ESC Members, ESC Board Liaison Carol Sanguinetti, HOAMCO Staff Sara Skagen and the following barn owners were present: Carol Loewy, Charli Stevens, Kelly Smith, Mike Ault, and Dina Siegel. Amelia Adair presided as chair of the meeting. Tara Debevec served as Secretary. The Agenda was adopted as prepared.
  1. Minutes.  The Minutes of the September 2020 ESC Business Meeting were previously approved by e-mail; there were no corrections to those Minutes.
  1. Stable Story.  
    • Karla recognized and thanked Gretel Underwood, and Kelly Smith and her family, for their generous help when Lynn Richie’s Horse coliced. The horse is recovered and now has many new friends at the Stable.
    • Jennie Dunn, Alice Griffin, Gretel Underwood, Lisa Bessone, Deena Joseph, Amelia Adair, Eric Chambers and Karla Lauritsen were thanked for their hard work weeding at the trail course.
    • Alice and Gretel were thanked for removing trash from the arroyo.
  1. Open Forum.  No issues or questions brought forward
  1. Chair’s Report.  The Chair’s report was delivered in writing, by email.
  1. ECIA Report.  Amelia Adair reported for Mike Rogers, the ECIA Operations Manager, on the following topics: Electrical box project is complete; the arroyo field fence is up; the weeds in the paddock of barn 20 are being taken care of this week as an enforcement action.
  1. Board Update.

Carol Sanguinetti, ESC Board Liaison, reported that Rachel Turnbough, Administrative Assistant, is no longer with the ECIA; Jessica Collins has been promoted to Assistant General Manager and will be taking over as the primary administrative staff person for the Stable, including handling billing for the stable community. The new database is now being used to generate bills.

Board Meeting, October 26th at 5:00pm, items of interest on the agenda to be aware of:

Budget review and dog behavior – possible new rules.

  • Gretel Underwood resigned from the ESC – The ESC thanked her for her hard work and many contributions over the years.
  • New members nominated: Lisa Bessone and Kelly Smith
    • Unanimously approved
  • Halloween Parade
    • Judges – Carol Sanguinetti and two more
    • Need plan for meeting new Covid-19 criteria
    • Need volunteers for parking and prize distribution
  • Weed Management – Implementing plant management program – Karla Lauritsen reported on this plan and next steps: Top three goals of this program are 1) reduce ECIA maintenance time spent weeding; 2) promote grazing edible plants, and 3) create a more inviting and sustainable environment.  Based on a consultation with Susan Tweit, plant biologist and owner of Barn #5, the team will pursue the following actions as the next phase:
    • Encourage and good drought resistant and sustainable native plants, thus reducing weeds
    • Encourage grazing of edible weeds and work to eradicate non-palatable weeds
    • Educate people about weeds
  • Move toward sustainability
  • Thanks to volunteers who have been pulling weeds.
